| Trevor S. Bird received the B. App. Sc., M. App. Sc. and PhD degrees from the University of Melbourne. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Queen Mary College, University of London, and then a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at James Cook University of North Queensland for five years.During 1982 and 1983 he was a consultant at Plessey Radar, UK, and in 1983 he joined CSIRO in Sydney. He held several positions with CSIRO and ultimately before retiring he was a CSIRO Fellow and Chief Scientist in the CSIRO ICT Centre. He is currently a CSIRO Postretirement Fellow and Principal of Antengenuity, a specialist consulting firm, an Adjunct Professor at Macquarie University and a Guest Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.Dr Bird is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological and Engineering Sciences, the IEEE, the Institution of Electrical Technology (IET) and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. On four occasions he received the John Madsen Medal of the Institution of Engineers, Australia for the best paper published annually in the Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Australia. In 2001 he was co-recipient of the H.A. Wheeler Applications Prize Paper Award of the IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society. Dr Bird was awarded a CSIRO Medals in 1990 and again in 1998 for outstanding research achievement. He received an IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000 for contributions to the IEEE New South Wales Section. In 2003 he was awarded a Centenary Medal for service to Australian society in telecommunications and in the same year he was named Professional Engineer of the Year by the Sydney Division of Engineers Australia. His biography is listed in Who’s Who in Australia. He was a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society from 1997 to 1999, was Vice-chair and Chair of the New South Wales Section in 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 respectively. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas & Propagation from 2001 to 2004, a member of the Administrative Committee of the IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society from 2003-2005, and Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas & Propagation from 2004 to 2010. Currently, he is member of the Editorial Boards of IET Microwave, Antennas & Propagation and the Journal of Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves and also Chair of the Publications Committee of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas & Propagation Society. He was Chairman of the last Asia Pacific Microwave Conference held in Australia, in 2000 in Sydney. | Michael Steer is the Lampe Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU). He is a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was Secretary of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) in 1997 and was on the IEEE MTT-S Adminisitrative Committee from 1998 to 2001, and from 2003 to 2006. He is a former Editor-In-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. He received the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Research Award from NCSU in 2003; he was the Jack S. Kilby Lecturer in 2003; and in 1994 and 1996 received the Bronze Medallion from U.S. Army Research for Outstanding Scientific Accomplishment. In 2007 he received a Distinguished Service Recognition Award from IEEE MTT-S. In 2009 he received a Military Medal, the “Commander’s Award For Public Service” from the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) for his electronic warfare work. He shared the 2010 Microwave Prize from the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society for the best paper on microwave engineering published in any IEEE publication in the preceding year. In 2011 he received the Distinguished Educator Award from IEEE/MTT-S, and was also inducted into the Electronic Warfare Technology Hall of Fame (sponsored by the Association of Old Crows). ). He has authored more than 450 refereed publications and 3 books Foundations of Interconnect and Microstrip Design (with T.C. Edwards); Multifunctional Adaptive Microwave Circuits and Systems (with W. D. Palmer); and the textbook Microwave and RF Design: A Systems Approach. |
